Global warming
Introduction
Glaciers are melting , sea levels are rising and clouds forest are drying. In the news you hear about extreme heat waves, storms and flooding all around the world. Actually, last week there was extreme flooding in Houston where thousand of people had to be rescued from the raging water. This worldwide trend is called Global warming.
Lots of you may be thinking what is global warming and how do we stop it? Don't worry, but the end of this speech you will know what is global warming, what the world is doing to help stop it and what you can do to help.
Big Idea 1
The history of global warming, Global warming is discovered in 1896 about 121 years ago. There was a man called Svante Arrhenius and he was a chemist. He was the first person to find out that if you put Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere it makes it hotter. But nobody believed him until 1938 when a engineer named Giuet Suve decided to look at the earth temperature and record it for the next 50 years. He find out that the earth is getting hotter and each year at an alarming rate. This discovery lead to many scientist working together to find out what was causing the earth's quickly rising temperature.
Big Idea 2
What causes Global warming? It is a simple answer. Global warming is case by use humans. When we drive vehicles we burn petrol and oil which makes gases, when we burn forests down and use factories they create smoke that is full of gases. This is bad because it makes the greenhouse effect thicker. Know you be thinking what is greenhouse effect?
Basically around the earth is a layer of gases called the atmosphere. This lets in some of the sun's radiation and keeps the earth from getting too hot or too cold. Without it all life on earth would die. The greenhouse effect is when smoke from cars and factories that humans make hit the atmosphere and start making a circle or layer around the earth that traps the sun's heat in. This is not good.
Big Idea 3
How can we help to stop global warming? If we don’t do anything to stop global warming this could result in humans dying. Here is some steps to stop global warming.
- Plant more and more trees.
- Reduce,reuse and recycle.
- Use less hot water and air container.
- Turn of electronic devices when not in use.
- Drive less drive smart .
- Use the off switch.
- Encourage others to help .
Concluding Statement
I know that if we all work together we can protect our planet Earth from global warming. By following the simple advice I have shared with you today, together we can protect the planet. As Dr Seuss once said “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It's not.” Start caring today!

The Gorilla
Gorillas are are fascinating animals. They live in Western and Eastern Africa. They live on forest mountains that are 10,000 feet up from the ground. Up in the mountains it is cloudy, misty and pretty cold. The Gorillas think there are the rules of the forest.
Family
The male Gorilla is the leader in the family and is know as the “Silverback”. He is called the silverback because he has an area of white or silvery hair across the back. The silverback decides where to eat, sleep and play. He is the boss.
The female Gorilla has a thick body, large head, are a shiny black colour and very muscular. There are 6-8 female gorilla in a family.
And we must not forget the baby Gorilla. The baby Gorilla stays on the mother until they are 4 months .The baby Gorilla likes to play. They even act like their dad and try to climb trees. Often they will fall over.
The Gorilla can live up to 35-50 years old.
Gorillas live in groups. Groups of gorillas are called troops or bands. A band of gorillas can have up to 30-50 members. They learn to crawl at about 2 months years old;and start to walk when they are 9 months years old.
Diet
These Gorilla’s need a lot of food and that is how they stay so muscular. They eat all kinds of veggies and insects, that means they are herbivores. They usually eat vegetation such as wild celery, fruit, tree bark and tree pulp, but they have been known to eat small animals and insects. About 67% of their diet is fruit, 17% is leaves, seeds and stems; 3% is termites and caterpillars. A male can eat up to 18 kg of vegetation each day.
Fun facts!!!
Gorillas are the world’s largest primates. They are closely related to humans, with 98% of their DNA identical to that of Homo sapiens (scientific name for humans).
Some gorillas have learned to use sign language to communicate with humans.
The males are often twice as big as the females. The males grow to around 5 feet tall and weigh around 400 pounds. The females grow to 4 feet tall and weigh around 200 pounds.
Gorillas have long arms, even longer than their legs!. They use their long arms to "knuckle-walk". This is where they use the knuckles on their hands to walk on all fours.
They are highly intelligent and have now been observed using tools in the wild. Just like we have fingerprint gorillas have a nose print, so if you get a paper with some ink on it and press it on the nose is makes a print.(Each gorilla have a different one).
Are Gorillas endangered?
YES!!! They are because Recently the Ebola Virus killed a number of them. Now, less than 1,000 western lowland gorillas are found in the wild,923 Eastern lowland.Mountain gorillas are the most severely endangered, with an estimated population of about 635 left in the wild and none in zoos
